Having a couple of food packs left (took 7 this time) and needed fruit and sandwich bags for the food packs, I walked to the Mission District. This neighborhood is primary where Latinos reside, they have many markets that have reasonable prices which help make all of this affordable.
I decided to walk down a street I very rarely take which was so delightful. Taking a moment to look around at the neat boutiques and the menus of exotic cuisines. When an Anglo man pushing a cart came into my site. Normally I would not mention this but because he was here, it surprised me a little. I offered him a food pack and water which very sweetly he thanked me follow by a “God Bless You”.
I picked up apricots and the bags started walking towards a bus stop to take me back to my neighborhood when there before me another pushing his cart.
Next day I decided to try other neighborhoods, so I chose one of the most poverty-stricken part of the city..Tenderloin/Civic Center area. This area is crowded with those who are heavy drinkers and drug users that also live on the street. Approaching them needed some caution however that did not dissuade me. I cleared my voice before approaching a group of three men in a group guarding their carts.
One man was so blitz he could barely stand and when I asked them if they would like a sandwich and water, the guy started walking close where it became uncomfortable. To my surprise I said very firmly “Step back” which he did immediately also the other two guys reinforce that command. They accepted the water especially with great gratitude.
If I had a larger container to carry the food and water in I could be out and about for hours. This is just a small amount of people I reach when there are so many -many more.
Blessings All
