My post ‘ ‘BEGINNING THE NEW MONTH’ gave a window into the women and men on the streets with little finances. The ones who are ‘lucky’ receive about 800 dollars a month. Living here on this amount only guarantee a flop house room or the street… the arithmetic doesn’t include daily meals. Cheap booze or dime bag of weed or other, when you actually see these souls you realize that drinking or drugging would be the only way to survive their day . There are those who beg for enough money as I saw today from a held sign that read 25 cents from 38 people equals to one night in a hotel… believe me it will not be the Hilton. Many can not be sober or drug free long enough to go through the several weeks of prep work to see if they are low enough on the scale to qualify for any help or an address to begin the process. These people are not the ones who politicians claim are lazy and don’t want to work. They are too SICK to work from abuse of what ever substance or mentally illness..some are dishearten and do not know where to turn. There are very little hospital care places or beds for rehabilitation. So do we decide as a community these people should just die because we are tired of walking over them, smelling them or just plain-looking at them. NO that is not the answer.
We are civilized and our humanity hurts when we see people in pain or near death even if we try to turn away. My wish would be to see every city have a project that goes out with snacks if not full packs with sandwiches to feed those down and out. This is 2012 ‘soup line’ rendition, for those who have little or near death, please help us. We try to make sure many in our area have something to fill them daily. Now we don’t get the same people everyday which is heartwarming and heartbreaking. Those who have joined with us in feeding those on the street again thanks for being with us. We need more help NOW from those thinking about helping, we have people in our country who close their eyes at night hungry. …
