My Week On the Street

This week so far has made and even stronger impression on me. I must admit it isn’t always the most pleasant aroma to encounter  and I do wear fashionable leather gloves admittedly to cut down on germs, I wouldn’t stop doing this for love or money.

On my way to catch my bus to take me down the hill to the local neighborhood, was a man yesterday and another today collecting plastic from the bins along the way.  The both were so so dirty and before I gave my ego mind a chance to negate any contact, I said ” Hello”. They both acted totally surprise and gave me a cheerful hello back. I offered them food and water which they gladly accepted followed by thank you and God bless you lady. The guy from yesterday said to me “I remember you giving me food before” Left him to run for the bus.

I came across a young women lying on the grass patch connected to the sidewalk..she was asleep, so I woke her up. I clumsily asked her if she wanted food and water that was free. She sat up and said “Momma thank you I need to generate some energy”. I got a good look at her, she was a beautiful latina women and of course I wondered about her ‘story’ but dare not ask. Leaving her still talking , looking back at her I said “Enjoy” which she said “God Bless you momma” It made me smile.

The past week I have been looking for the twins and snaggertooth, I guess they like most have moved on and of course others take their spot.

I finish passing out the food packs and was waiting for the light to change when a man carrying a plastic bag full of bottles was staring at me. So I always say to anyone doing that “hello, how are you”. He said to me ” You are the lady who gives out sandwiches” and I said to him ” Yes, but I have given out all of the allotments for today.” He then said ” No I didn’t want anything I just wanted to say thank you for feeding us.” I was as humble as I could be by saying people do care and I’m sorry I didn’t remember him” which he replied, ” I will always remember you.”

This is why I would not change this work for love or money..

I have a personal committment Thursday but will take a couple of packs with me just in case.

Blessings All

I live in beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, though inwardly not so. There are so many sheltered by the streets and without so my best friend and I decided we needed to act. We created the project " FEEDING THE HUNGRY" to feed five days of the week. We have fed 242 to date starting May 1st, goal 500 people. July 31st we have now fed 364 on the streets of our city.
